Professor Pip Beard
Professor Pip Beard is the co-ordinator of the DEFEND H2020 project. She is a veterinarian, pathologist and virologist specialising in the unique group of complex DNA viruses which replicate in the cytoplasm of a host cell.

Professor Nick De Regge
Dr Nick De Regge is the head of the service of Exotic and Particular diseases at Sciensano and has responsibility for the EURL on capripox viruses and acts as deputy-coordinator of the EURL for foot-and-mouth disease.

Dr Carola Sauter-Louis
Carola Sauter-Louis is the deputy head of the institute of epidemiology. She is a veterinarian and epidemiologist who has been working in the field of epidemiology for the past 20 years.

Dr Steven Van Borm
Steven obtained his PhD in Biology (Molecular Ecology) from the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. He joined the Virology Department of Sciensano in 2003, successively working as project scientist and senior scientist, and leading the Molecular Platform group (a centralised molecular virology expert pool) from 2012 onward.

Dr Giorgia Angeloni
Dr. Giorgia Angeloni is the coordinator of VSF Italy and the Vice-President in charge of Vétérinaires Sans Frontières International. Moreover, she has a research fellowship at Istituto Zooprofilattico dell’Umbria e delle Marche focused on infectious diseases at interfaces between wildlife, livestock and humans (i.e. Distemper, bTB, vector-borne diseases)

Professor de Koning is an international expert in quantitative genetics and animal breeding. His research focuses on the application of genomics to livestock species to unravel the genetic basis of complex traits and to facilitate molecular breeding to accelerate genetic progress.
